CAG Issues:

The CAG will be meeting on the third Monday of every month. Next meeting is April 19th at 6 pm—likely will be at SVSU but nothing is set in stone.  EPA did not publicly announce the last meeting, it was an oversight, but will be sure to do so in the future. To date we have had two meetings, one being of a meet and greet nature, the last an official meeting.  Both times there were a number of people missing.

The following people have expressed interest in being one of two co-chairs for the CAG.

Dr Deb Huntely Dean of the School of Science and Engineering SVSU

Judi Lincoln Saginaw County Board of Commissioners

Wendy Kanar, Midland attorney

Ron Campbell Frankenlust Twp Supervisor

Annette Rummel Saginaw County Convention and Visitors Bureau

These  5 people will be meeting in SVSU’s Pioneer Hall, Rm 238 on Thursday April 1 at 11 am to discuss the role of the CAG co- chairs.

It was stressed that the chairs should be neutral parties as much as is possible and not, to use the facilitator’s word, “ be polarizing individuals”.

Others are getting together to develop a mission statement while the CAG continues to debate a moniker to define the CAG and its function. Perhaps you have a name? Two obstacles at the source of the name debate: 1. Use of the word dioxin   2. Finding geographical descriptor that is not too long.

There are four ex-officio members on the CAG: EPA, MDNRE, USFWS and Dow. Lone Tree Council did ask for someone representing public health to also retain an ex-officio seat. Given MDCH’s extensive history and work on this site they would be the most appropriate—this will likely be up for debate by the committee.

A great deal more happening including exchanges over technical issues, relocation, NPL listing, sources to the river. CAG is fledgling at this time with many issues to resolve. For a few of us the presentations are a refresher course, for most of the CAG there is learning curve.

If anyone has any suggestions, comments or ideas don’t be shy. Speak up and stay tuned.
